I have a Sony camcorder with a LANC jack and an infrared remote control that requires no LANC. Why use LANC?

LANC is a different form of "remote" control for various uses. LANC is a protocol for connecting devices to connect the remote control device to zoom, focus and stuff. The main reason for using this rule is if you take pictures on a tripod. In fact, many actually tripods come with LANC remote control devices installed. Instead of addressing the camera itself to control these things, often in uncomfortable positions, can use the LANC device, often attached to the tripod pan handle to zoom and focus without leaving your plate to handle. Thus, not grope with buttons camera during recording. LANC is used primarily by Sony, while other manufacturers use are different and to carry out the same purpose.
